The Battle Across the Bridge

The PCs follow the orcs around a corner and into a valley in the side the rocky hill, where they see a set of steps winding upwards and the orcs quickly disappearing at the top around another corner. They follow upwards where they discover a small chamber and a large set of double doors, slightly ajar.

Uncertain of what lays beyond, they instead retreat, cast fly on the themselves (or take potions) and investigate the arrow slots high up in the sides of the hill from which they were fired upon. Unfortunately, they are too narrow to be useful and it is eventually decided to search the hill for another entrance. Failing to find anything other than the door, they retreat into a small cave to rest up for the night.

The following day the prepare themselves to lead an assault on the door, which is now closed. A quick stone shape gives them access and they’re in – and presented with a room dominated by an enormous chasm stretching from one side of the room to the other and across which stretches an old and very narrow rope bridge. From across the other side of the chasm some orcs appear from behind some natural pillars and release a volley of arrows.

As the adventurers prepare themselves to cross the chasm, heavy footsteps are heard echoing from opposite and a fire giant wield a large fiery sword appears, quickly followed by a horde of orcs who soon fill the opposite platform. Nonetheless, Keeley remains undeterred and Tara flies Keeley over, dropping him right in front of the giant and amidst the orc hordes. Werthic remains on the far side of the chasm, but soon finds himself under attack as several orcs appear from a secret door.

With Keeley leading the assault against the giant, the battle is soon raging with arrows flying toward Tara and Werthic, who is also under attack from falchion wielding orcs. Orcs are also soon making their way across the bridge to add to Wertic’s woes, so he decides to cut the ropes that support it, bringing those on it crashing down. Keeley and Tara, meanwhile, continue their assualt on the giant and its minions and, despite taking several painful hits, eventually bring it crashing down. The remaining orcs are soon defeated.
