Although I play D&D almost exclusively, I have considered a few other games from time to time – and may yet give one or two a whirl as a break from the usual game. One type of game I’d like to play is some steampunk, where modern ideas are transposed into the Victorian world.
I don’t know anything about this in the RPG world, so I think I’ll have to have a dig around to see what is out there, but I was reminded of my interest by the recent articles on the BBC website.
Apparently there’s a steampunk exhibition going to happen in Oxford, which inspired the articles. But anyway, check out the galleries:

I think I’ll have to have a dig around and see what games there are out there. As I mentioned earlier, it might be a bit of fun for when we have a break from our main campaign.

Deadlands. The Wild Wild West movie pretty much singlehandedly launched the whole Steampunk era, and the game that capitalized on the starting momentum was Deadlands. Deadlands Reloaded, while I had not had a chance to play, looked pretty solid as a 3rd edition product.
While I completely and totally think that the whole Steampunk movement has completely lost their mind at times (Tell me, what is punk about the fiction? Really, all we have is Steam Fantasy, not Steam Punk), it has a degree of charm to it, and it’s where half the cool kids are, so you might as well play with the idea a little.
Read China Mieville’s “Perdido Street Station”, “The Scar” and “Iron Council” for some fantastic steampunk stories.
