As we’re now approaching 2010 and we still haven’t heard anything about a Gen Con UK 2010, I can only assume that it isn’t really likely to happen at this point, unless it gets pushed back toward the end of the year. Presumably it takes a long time to get a convention together, especially a big one like Gen Con. There’s arranging all the events, getting the GMs to run the games, finding sponsors and getting the traders in – oh, and then there’s also actually finding the event hall and getting accommodation sorted. And then there’s the small matter of getting word out, advertising, and selling the tickets – all of which takes considerable time.
So, here we are approaching 2010 and not a whisper. So is Gen Con UK 2010 dead? And if we don’t see it this year, are we likely to see it again any time soon?
Here’s a random pic from Gen Con UK 2008, the last one to run (more pics here). Hopefully we’ll see another…

Hello there,
I believe GenCon UK is dead. I met some of the organisers a couple of years ago and they were struggling big time. Then I met some of the traders and they said they’d never appear in Gencon again as they felt conned with the poor organisation of the event.
I offered to help as a web designer and to use my contacts in the video game industry to bring people onboard, but they refused my help…
I am sorry to say that until a professional company takes over it, it is extremelly unlikely that there’ll be another GenCon in this country in the future.
Dragonmeet is still going strong, though, and likely to become even stronger! Maybe that’s the one to watch now!
